GO Virginia Region 8 Announces Selection of New Executive Director

The GO Virginia Region 8 Executive Committee is excited to announce the selection of Alison Varner-Denbigh as the GO Virginia Region 8 Executive Director.

Alison brings experience and expertise as a business owner, entrepreneur, real estate developer, appointed leader, volunteer and community advocate. Some of her roles have included Chairman of the Staunton City Economic Development Authority, Cofounder of the Staunton Innovation Hub, Past President of the Staunton Rotary Club, Project Manager/Board Director for Staunton-Augusta YMCA and member of the GO Virginia Region 8 Marketing & Communications Committee. Her skills in financial management, project management, business development, strategic planning and stakeholder engagement make her the best possible successor to this role.

Alison double majored in Business Administration from James Madison University with concentrations in Finance and Economics. She completed the Economic Development Institute courses needed to qualify for the Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) exam. Alison continues to strengthen her industry knowledge and connectivity as a member of the Virginia Economic Developers Association, Shenandoah Valley Partnership, her local downtown development association and chamber of commerce. Alison has received many awards and accolades in her roles over the years, demonstrating her passion and continued growth in the Shenandoah Valley and throughout the Commonwealth.

Deborah Flippo will continue to serve as the Region 8 Executive Director through 2024. Throughout November and December, Deborah and Alison will be cross-training and spending time meeting with stakeholders—Executive Committee leadership, current and potential project applicants, the planning district commissions who support Region 8, incoming council members, DHCD, and many more.
