Expressways to Power

Project Goal

Laurel Ridge Community College will provide a unique and innovative education-to-workforce powerline program.  During the program, participants will be exposed to comprehensive curricula, coursework, and experiential learning that will position them for 7 industry credentials, transition to a 4-year journeyman apprenticeship program, and work in the field.  Laurel Ridge will complete development of its line worker experiential learning site at its Middletown Campus.  This site will include a 6,000 sq. ft. powerline utility training building with vehicle and equipment storage areas, as well as an elaborate pole yard with a pole circle where students will train for safe climbing and pole runs/powerline ranges that will enable students to train on industry equipment simulating all outdoor live training conditions.

The GO Virginia Region 8 funding will support the costs of equipment used in training and costs of curriculum development.
